Days 9, 10, and 11 of Giving!

Day 9- Gave my mom a bunch of groceries and made her some homemade fruit smoothie for her next few days at work.

Day 10- Gave some "free item" coupons to my neighbor. We coupon swap a lot, but this was just for fun ones that I knew she'd like that I had found in the coupon basket at Fred's.

Day 11- Gave some cookies and extra groceries to a different neighbor who is going through a rough time. Also gave a memorial donation to MAF (Mission Aviation Fellowship) for a family who's pilot died tragically last weekend. We've flown on MAF a few times in South America and I always wanted to be an MAF pilot when I was younger. Now I'm shooting for when I'm older. :)

Day 7 and 8 of Giving

Day 7, I stewed the leftovers of one of those whole chickens we tried to have for dinner the night before, so it made really yummy broth. Mixed that with some of the chicken I had shredded, beans, rotel, green chilies, corn, and a bit of taco seasoning and took some homemade tortilla soup to some friends!

Day 8, Sadly enough I did not leave the house today! In fact, I never left my jammies! I did however spend all day playing travel agent for my sister in South America and used miles to book their family of four a trip to the states this summer. So my husband gave the miles, I gave the time to find the best deal.

Day 5 and 6 of Giving

Since I didn't get a chance to post this yesterday, I'm combining them!

Yesterday I gave some really good coupons to my friend so she could do the Oil of Olay deal. I also gave my spot in line at checkout to a lady who only had two things to buy. This is a normal thing for me to do though, but this lady was overly grateful for my actions since her husband was waiting for her.

Today I made cinnamon muffins and put some in our mailbox for our mailman!

Day 4 of Giving

Winter is finally here to stay! Yay! I'm crazy, but I love winter.
Today we spent most of the day at home, but did venture out to go to Fred's with mom and then took her home and shoveled her driveway!
Short post, late time, I'm off to bed!

Day 3 of Giving

Today I wrote a letter to someone I don't really know.

Let me tell you why!

After getting Coldplay's song about "missionaries in a foreign field" stuck in my head all day I took it as a sign of what to do for my giving project for today.

My sister and family are missionaries in South America and are part of the organization of Christian Missions in Many Lands (CMML). The organization publishes a directory of missionaries worldwide so I opened up my copy, found someone to send some mail to, and wrote away.
Hopefully my gift of gab will lift the spirits of these folks the day they receive my note and will let them know they are being thought of and prayed for by people they don't even know. I'm very thankful for missionaries who are out there giving their whole lives to the Lord's service and if I can help encourage them with a note it's the least I can do!

Oh, and I also gave to the economy by going to Costco today. Ouch!

Day 2 of Giving

November 1st should be called "Pumpkin Baking Day" in my opinion! I cut, cleaned, baked, scraped, pureed, strained and froze seven pumpkins yesterday. It took hours and hours, but I now have a nice stash of yummy pumpkin in the freezer, and today I happily gave some to my neighbor down the hill, along with a bag of sweet and spicy roasted pumpkin seeds. (Plus she gave to me by letting me borrow her colander!)

Day 1 of Giving

My husband and I were able to sneak off to Seattle for our first weekend away from our two year old just this past weekend, and while I missed her tons it was so nice to get out and shop, go out for dinner, and just be together! Upon arriving back home I realized just how much stuff I have and immediately went into cleaning out mode. Gotta love that!
So today we took two large trash bags full of clothes we don't really wear anymore as well as a box of kitchen things (pots, pans, cups, utensils, and lots of misc.) to our local Salvation Army Donation Center.
I'm sure someone will appreciate some of the stuff and I sure felt good about clearing out a bit of my unused things.
A good start to Day 1!

30 Day Giving Challenge

I heard about this through a few other blogs today, and have decided this is a great opportunity for our family to keep track on paper (or blog!) of our ability to give, great or small, and help start a habit. After all, most habits can be started in 30 days.

The 30 Day Giving Challenge is motivation to consciously put forth the effort to GIVE! I'm reading it to mean in any way that you are able, physically, emotionally, or monetarily. A bag of groceries to a friend, helping shovel the neighbors driveway, or just giving a compliment to someone.

I'm very much hoping to keep track of my 30 days on my blog here, since I seem to blog better when I have a goal (remember Life In My Land's Freebie Challenge?)! So here is hoping I can keep my resolution to "give" to my blog! Haha!

After today, I'll list each entry with a heading such as "Day 1 of Giving."

Have fun following along, and feel free to share in comments or on your own blog about what you can give!!!
